Interesting seasonal items

A winter CSA is much more than just roots. It has a seasonality of its own.

In the late fall, we still have hearty green vegetables coming out of the field:

Broccoli, Kale, Leeks, Spinach, Swiss Chard

In the deep mid winter all manner of interesting roots are augmented with

 pickles, dry beans and winter spinach.

In the early spring months, delicious lettuce and greens come from our greenhouses.

We try to have some greens from the greenhouse every month of the year.

It’s very exciting to be able to extend the season this way.

 January and February are the tough months, and last winter was particularly harsh.

There’s no guarantees, but we’ll try for every month again this year.

 

We store it

If you’ve ever tried root cellaring winter vegetables,

you probably found out it’s not as easy as it sounds.

We have 4 separate climate controlled rooms for winter storage.

You can enjoy winter vegetables without the hassle of a root cellar.

 

How it works:


1) Pick a Share Size We offer 3 Winter CSA Share sizes

Traditionally there was one share size and it had 5lbs of Carrots and 5 lbs of Potatoes every month.
Some people have had a hard time eating their way through so many Potatoes and Carrots.
Other folks find it's easy as can be to eat that much of both.
 ***Now you can choose 2 lbs or 5 lbs of either Carrots or Potatoes***

 Our Standard share:
 Has 5 lbs of Carrots and 5 lbs of Potatoes every month.

 Our Medium Share:
 Has 2 lbs of either Carrots or Potatoes and 5 lbs of the other, every month.

 Our Small Share
Has 2 lbs of Carrots and 2 lbs of Potatoes every month

When you sign up you will choose either 2 or 5 lbs of Potatoes and 2 or 5 Lbs of Carrots .

Once a month pickup

From November through May, pickups are once a month.

Shares will be pre-bagged, labeled and waiting for you in the walk-in cooler at the farmstand.

Once a month Deliveries

From November through May, your CSA will be delivered once a month.

One Tuesday each month, late in the day, we'll drop off your share.

Easy pickup-All weekend!

Once a month pickups are at Lewis Creek Farm in Starksboro and are scheduled for weekends.

You can come any time during the weekend.

Optional pickup at the Farm

If you're planning to be away or for any reason the delivery doesn't work for you in one particular month, you can contact us and arrange for your share to be picked up at the farm at your convenience. .

Can’t make it? Not a problem

If the pickup weekend isn’t convenient for you, you can leave it and pick it up later in the week.

Things will keep just fine in our cooler. Your bags will be there waiting for you.

Can’t make it? Not a problem

If you opt to pick up at the farm instead one month, you can come almost anytime you want. Your share will be waiting for you in our walk-in cooler.

SAMPLE WINTER SHARES (Medium Size)

Sample Late Fall Share:
2 lbs Leeks, 1 bch Kale
1 bch Swiss Chard, 1 lb Brussels Sprouts
2 lbs Beets, 1 bch Broccoli
1 Dz. Eggs, 5 lbs Potatoes
2 lbs Carrots, 3 lbs Onions
1 lb Spinach


Sample Mid Winter Share:
1lb Parsnips, 1/2 lb Baby Spinach
2 lbs Rutabaga, 2 lbs Beets
1lb Dry Beans, 1 jar Pickles
1 Dz. Eggs, 2 lbs Carrots
3 lbs Onions, 5 lbs Potatoes

Sample Early Spring Share:
1/2lb Spinach, 1/2 lb Mesclun
1 bch Basil, 1 lb Dry Beans
1 jar Pickles, 3 lbs Onions
2 lbs Carrots, 1 Dz Eggs
1lb Parsips, 2 lbs beets 5 lbs Potatoes

Winter Share Agreement

I understand that I am buying a share of the harvest at Lewis Creek Farm for the 2023-
2024 winter season, subject to availability, weather and storage conditions. I understand
that I am sharing the risks inherent to agriculture which in the summer include but are
not limited to drought, flooding, hail and frost, but in the winter can also include ice and
snow storms, loss of electrical power and any number of variables affecting storage. In a
normal year participants in the program will receive 7 monthly installments of vegetables.
The vegetables available will be chosen by Lewis Creek Farm and not all vegetables
listed or grown on the farm will necessarily be available through this program. I
understand that each month’s share is seasonal and perishable and that it has no value
that can be credited towards a future date should I miss a month for any reason.
